Asorebiara's difference stands out through a range of factors, including the strategic location of the Ara Macao Biological Reserve, one of Costa Rica’s most important mangrove ecosystems, crucial for biodiversity and coastal protection. We have strong momentum in scientific research, supported by academic institutions, NGOs, and government entities.
Our strategic location
Our projects cover a total area of 297 hectares, of which 288 hectares and 4,742.77 square meters are mangrove ecosystems, with 9 hectares dedicated to nearby projects. The mangrove is essential for coastal protection, providing habitat for various species, and carbon capture, helping mitigate climate change. Its proximity to the Grande de Tarcoles river and Carara National Park positions it as a key project for conservation and ecological connectivity in Costa Rica’s Gulf of Nicoya.
Our traction and backing
The Ara Macao Biological Reserve is recognized as a vital mangrove ecosystem for the survival of the scarlet macaw, an endangered species. This mangrove was the subject of a detailed study by a group of American biologists in the late 1990s, documented in Chapter 22 of the book The Large Macaws: Their Care, Breeding, and Conservation. This scientific backing reaffirms the importance of the reserve and strengthens our conservation and restoration projects, positioning us as a key player in the protection of this valuable habitat.
