Conservation and protection of mangrove ecosystems in Costa Rica

Asorebiara is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the protection, restoration, and conservation of mangrove ecosystems at the mouth of the Grande de Tarcoles river in Puntarenas, Costa Rica. Our projects focus on ensuring sustainability for future generations through environmental conservation and community education.

Projects we focus on

Conservation and protection of mangroves
Cleanup of the Grande de Tarcoles River

We conserve and protect the Costa Rican mangrove ecosystems, which protect our coasts, mitigate climate change by capturing carbon, and provide a habitat for species such as the scarlet macaw (Ara Macao).

We are committed to cleaning the Grande de Tarcoles river, the most polluted in Central America. About 60% of the waste from the Costa Rican Central Plateau ends up in this important river and on the shores of Guacalillo Beach, where it empties.

Research and education
Reduction of CO2 emissions

We promote environmental research and education through partnerships with universities and non-profit organizations, both public and private, connecting communities with environmental knowledge, promoting learning about the conservation and protection of mangrove and river ecosystems.

We actively work in reducing carbon emissions through the conservation of mangrove ecosystems, which act as natural carbon sinks. In addition, we promote sustainable practices in our operations and encourage local communities to adopt habits that contribute to climate change mitigation.

Guacalillo Surf & Skate Camp
Ecorganic Farm

This camp combines sports such as surfing and skateboarding with conservation activities and environmental education. Participants also get involved in beach cleaning and reforestation projects, learning about the importance of preserving coastal ecosystems.

Ecorganic Farm is a sustainable farm that teaches local communities about environmentally friendly farming practices. Organic crops produced on this farm help reduce pressure on natural ecosystems.

Ecological infrastructure and scientific tourism

We develop key infrastructure on land surrounding the Ara Macao Biological Reserve to support environmental research and education through ecological infrastructure and scientific tourism. These facilities will be designed in a sustainable way to integrate harmoniously into the natural environment.

Sustainable energy

We actively support infrastructure projects aimed at the generation of environmentally friendly and sustainable energy, specifically involving the innovative reuse of plastic waste materials collected from the Grande de Tarcoles river to effectively and sustainably produce fuel for a variety of purposes.

Creating a blueprint for sustainable development
